AI isn't replacing your thinking
Used well, it does the opposite — it makes your thinking sharper.
The lesson
Explaining a problem out loud forces you to say what you actually mean. AI reflects your half-formed idea back in full sentences, and you get to say: no, that's not quite it. That correction is your thinking, getting sharper. You stay the judge. It's just the sparring partner.
Try it — 60 seconds
I'm wrestling with a decision. Don't give me advice yet. First, repeat back what you heard — including what I seem to care about most. Then ask me the one question I'm avoiding.
Copy it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini — whichever you already use. Fill in the brackets with your real life.
Watch out
If you catch yourself repeating an answer you couldn't explain in your own words — pause. That's the line between help and outsourcing.
